Metric Explorer

The Device Metrics page is built for looking at one device at a time. Metric Explorer starts from the opposite direction: a blank search bar. Type what you’re looking for and it charts everything that matches, across your whole deployment, all at once.

Open Explore → Metric Explorer.

Type into the search bar — a metric name, a device name, or a device class. Searching “cpu” shows CPU charts for every device, container, or collector currently reporting one. Searching for a specific metric like ifHCInOctets shows that exact counter everywhere it’s collected. Results update as you type.

A row of buttons above the results lets you narrow to one kind of result: All, Devices, or Service Monitors. A Containers option also appears if your plan includes container monitoring.

Once you’ve searched for something, a row of filter chips appears — Site, Device, Collector, Container, and Metric — each showing how many results it would leave you with. Click a chip to add it as a filter; click several chips in the same row to select more than one (for example, two sites at once). Click Clear filters to start over. The chip options themselves never disappear as you filter — they always reflect everything your search term matched, not just what’s currently showing, so you can freely combine filters without a category vanishing on you.

If more results match than are shown, a note tells you how many are hidden — narrow your search term or add a filter to bring the rest into view.

The time range picker in the top right applies to every chart on the page at once. Change it and every result re-renders over the new window.

Every match becomes its own chart card:

  • Devices get the same chart used on the Metrics page — the exact same rendering, so what you see here matches what you’d see drilling into that device directly.
  • Service Monitors get a latency chart, the same one used on a Service Monitoring monitor’s own detail view.
  • Containers (when that result type is available) get a compact single-metric chart, with a reference line if you’ve set a threshold on that metric.

Every card has a pin button that adds just that chart to a dashboard, the same pin action available from the Device Metrics page.

Rather than pinning charts one at a time, click Save as dashboard to save every result currently on screen in one step. Give the new dashboard a name, choose whether to share it with your organization, and confirm — GridNMS creates a brand-new dashboard with one chart per result and takes you straight to it.

This is the fast way to build a purpose-built view — search “cpu”, filter down to one site, and save it as a dashboard to get an instant per-site CPU overview without pinning a dozen charts by hand.
